Kada Anan DeCuerdas Eskrima

Kada Anan DeCuerdas Eskrima is a Filipino Martial Art based on the teachings of late Grandmaster Gilbert Tenio, late Senior Master Juan Eliab Sr., and Grandmaster Gilbert Cordoncillo. The Kada Anan System, being a progressive culmination of styles, teaches Larga Mano Eskrima first. Larga Mano is based on the teachings of late Grandmaster Leo Giron. This style emphasizes using footwork for evasion and closing distance to gain fighting advantage. Wielding a single weapon, which may often be large and/or heavy, the beginning levels of Larga Mano employ larger movements which are later refined to become smaller and tighter. Since most students new to martial arts have a tendency toward large, wide motions, training in Larga Mano allows for a natural feel in the techniques practiced.

The Kada Anan System progresses to Serrada Eskrima next. Serrada is based on the teachings of late Grandmaster Angel Cabales. This style emphasizes training directly toe-to-toe against an opponent (the worst place to be in a close quarter fight). Practice involves responding to quick, multiple attacks and draws from fighting techniques utilizing Espada y Daga (sword and dagger). Training also incorporates the footwork developed in Larga Mano to get out of the pocket and defeat an opponent. Teaching Serrada post Larga Mano allows the two arts to complement each others' strengths to the benefit of the practitioner.

DeCuerdas Eskrima is our core style and is based on the teaching of late Grandmaster Gilbert Tenio. Although there are some specific techniques to learn, the bulk of the training is conceptual. DeCuerdas emphasizes the quick kill and is not weapon specific. Students are guided to move naturally while bringing concepts into motion. DeCuerdas is taught last to ensure students have acquired solid, basic skills before advancing to the conceptual.

Panuntukan

Panuntukan, also called Filipino Boxing, is a fighting system from the Philippines. Using all the blows present in modern sport boxing, it differs from them in certain aspects, giving it more the definition of martial boxing. The Panuntukan practitioner will develop a whole technical panel using all the natural weapons of the body (feet/fists, but also elbows, knees, head, shoulders, etc.) and will also develop a coplete game based on the effects of levers and gripping. He must be able to box, with or without boxing gloves (sports vs. martial aspect/self-defense), then play on the structure and stability of his partner, always moving during technical exercises, thematic attacks, and free boxing or wrestling.

Cultural and historical aspects are also discussed, in order to understand the development of the methodology, both in terms of technical and educational content specific to the discipline. Techniques generally developed according to the geographical location, the specificities of the land (loose, marshy, beaches, etc.), its philosophical or esoteric influences (such as in Japan and arts imbued with Shintoism, the Filipino arts are imbued with beliefs and practices that have influenced training methods) or foreign influences due to past invasions (Chinese influences in the north with Kuntao/European in the center of the Philippines/Arab-Muslim warrior arts in south). Panuntukan, like all Filipino martial arts, is therefore rich in its various influences, both cultural and historical.

FS3

The FS3 program is short and relatively simple to learn, with a basic and an advanced module that last roughly 3 months each. The idea behind the program comes from the perspective that most people, when looking for training for self defense/protection, aren't usually interested in lineage, rank, titles, or full martial arts systems. Their original intention is to learn something that is immediately applicable to survive a fight. After training <whatever>, they wind up engrossed in the lineage, rank, drill sets, titles, etc. Watching TV, movies and fighting sports can also influence or change the mindset. Many people go to MMA training thinking they'll receive fighting skill, not realizing they're learning SPORT fighting. While there's nothing wrong with sport, what if that's not the training goal? Still others choose a style based on fame. Being a well known practitioner doesn't necessarily equate to being skilled. A style that is popular doesn't mean it's well suited for everyone's training needs and/or abilities.

FS3 is streamlined, truncated, yet highly effective training based on concepts practiced in our DeCuerdas Eskrima program and a style of karate called Koshiki ToKen Jutsu. Instruction includes the use of impact weapons (stick) and empty hands to deal with attacks from empty hands/kicks and impact/cutting weapons (sticks/knives) plus working the non-dominant hand to develop some ambidexterity. Literally anyone, current martial arts practitioner or total newbie, can benefit from the FS3 program. The training offers seasoned practitioners a way to improve their current practice while learning to move efficiently, to "do more with less". New practitioners will work to develop functional strength coupled with practical skill, rather than memorizing drills or being entertained with flashy, ineffective moves.
